PETER MATTHEWS AIA

Peter focuses on giving form to meaningful ideas. Beyond the capacity to address particular needs and solve problems, his work demonstrates architecture’s potential to engage us in a memorable experience. Influenced by a family of painters and admen, aesthetics for him have always been framed by pragmatic considerations. Since an early age, his art and designs have involved diverse media, accompanied by creative word-craft that defines and expresses essential ideas. His training was complemented by art and architectural historical studies and far-flung drawing and photo tours. Peter assisted teaching architectural design studios at Princeton and Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently writing about mid-century American modern architecture.

With a concentration on arts and educational facilities, Peter is an adept facilitator working with focus groups, committees, and decision-makers to realize their challenging programs. His proposal for WORKFORUM recently led to an invitation to join the Council on Competitiveness in Washington D.C.. He has enjoyed repeat clients in prominent businesses and institutions, such as The Dalton School, The LeFrak Organization and the Hillman Family of Pittsburgh. Having been recognized with national design awards and featured in professional journals, Peter’s architectural design expresses a timeless aesthetic of tectonic integrity.
